An Article from Today’s Daytona Beach News Journal: Were These Two In The Same Foster Home?

Is this the kind of protecttion you can expect in Foster care? I am copy/pasting the story.16-year-old boy charged in rape of girl, 4

HOLLY HILL — A 16-year-old Daytona Beach boy has been arrested in the rape of a 4-year-old girl, Police Chief Mark Barker said today.

The sexual attack occurred Friday, Barker said, and after a weekend investigation and an interview with the suspect, Patrick Rashawn Jamerson, police charged the teenager with sexual battery late Monday, Barker said.

You know, no one said CPS was perfect. I lived in 12 homes. I was abused or neglected in many of them. At times I was treated as badly as I was by my bio-parents.
But in some ways the system tried…and in some ways the system failed.

Instead of bitching about the system, get involved and do something productive to change it and then you have the right to bitch. Volunteer with foster kids, lobby to your congress people with APPROPRIATE documentation, but first you need to be correctly informed and educated about the foster care system.

I am a survivor of a system that is terrible. But, I actively try and change it, not sit around and blame it.
I have the knowledge, the facts, and the DOCUMENTATION to challenge what is wrong. That’s what people listen to. Not shit from a misinformed angry person.

And just where does it mention foster care? If you want to lend credibility to your argument at least cut and paste the relevant parts OR a link to the story so we get it all. But if you want to get into a link posting war I’m sure that there are plenty of people here who could post many more articles about issues between bio siblings or between parents and their children all within their natural homes then you can about foster care issues.

Is foster care perfect? Certainly not but the issues this 16 year old boy displayed towards the 4 year old are probably those that were learned in his biological home or are a result of trauma he underwent in that home prior to foster care placement (if there even was one).

If you want to carry on an intelligent debate, you have to have….well, never mind. We all know what you are lacking.

ETA: Oh, and I went and found the article you quoted and that was the extent of it. Not one mention of foster care. Perhaps these children should have been in foster care and this may not have happened.

Um… I looked up the article, and it’s exactly as the asker quoted, in full. NO mention of foster care. NO mention of where the attack took place, under what circumstances, or why no there was no adult supervision. NO mention of the relationship (if any) between the victim and perpetrator. NO indication that they lived in the same home, or even knew each other, let alone any indication they were in the same FOSTER home, or that either child was in foster care at all.

The rape of this child is a terrible crime. But there’s no evidence of any ties to foster care. The foster care system is broken, but you can’t blame it for EVERY evil in the world.

Even if it had happened in foster care, which you have no reason to assume, the unfortunate reality of the world is, children are abused in many different situations. Foster home, adoptive home, biological home, school, sports field, church… even the most devoted parents can’t watch their children 24 hours a day, and can’t be blamed for the misfortunes of their children that they can’t foresee or prevent. Unless the parent was deliberately negligent, there wasn’t necessarily anything they could have done.

A child could be abused in anyone’s care– including yours– by another relative, friend, coach, teacher, religious leader, even stranger, etc. There is no way to guarantee children won’t be subject to abuse, so don’t throw stones when you only know a snippet of the story.

they were likely. sometimes it happens. you cannot fully blame the foster parents nor the system for this. Society itself is not willing to burden its share of support. they moan when taxes go up and people want all their money for infrastructure, just not human infrastructure. the social workers and the welfare office work with what they are given. you want to do something about it? contact your local elected officials and get this topic on the map! And do away with private adoptions and educate parents to adopt children who are waiting for parents.

All those Christians out there, why not try living your faith? Want to do God’s work? Adopt a child, a teenager if you have already your children gone, and then we can keep them out of these homes.

There can be action to avoid these issues, but without pressure from the people, and the understanding that yes, us in the middle and upper classes may have to cough up and few extra dollars a year to put into the system.

And if we had more homes, then better choices for spreading children out. Lack of homes equals overcrowding which equals risk. Isn’t a few extra dollars worth the safety of children?

i hope that 16 year old is charged with more and as a adult
like my grand father says if can do the crime then you can do the time and this boy has done the worst thing you can do to a child
